DIGITAL NATIVES? MILLENNIAL LEARNERS? WHO ARE TODAY'S STUDENTS?

Many educators are of the view that our students are hardwired differently and as a result they learn in a new way. They believe them to be digital natives (Prensky, 2001) who cannot survive without technology. This podcast provides a demographic profiling of grade nine students of the Clare Hall Secondary School in Antigua/Barbuda. The group was selected randomly from both genders. It provides a candid discussion about their use and views of technology in their lives. Lets listen to what they have to say, and we could determine if they are digital natives or millennial learners. Share your opinion.

  1. Ezra,
Fantastic podcast- the candor of your students' responses was wonderful, I really enjoyed listening to them. They did a grand job of describing how their technology is a part of them, as essential as air and water. No wonder reading a book or doing a problem with paper and pencil seems so antiquated! I get the sense they are digital natives- what do you think? Have a great night, Petra

I agree with you, but I wanted to leave it open for the listeners to decide. I really enjoyed working with them on the project. Even I was surprised at the articulateness of their responses - without any prodding from me. I never told them what the topic was until we met to tape. They were therefore talking from their hearts. I had almost an hours worth of footage to place in a six minute podcast. During the interview they responding to each others comments and the interaction was great. I had a tough time decided what to put in and what to delete. They also enjoyed listening to the finished product. They want to do a series of those on a variety of topics that affect them.

I will definitely go along with them on that. I just need an avenue to air those views.

    Thanks for your positive feedback.
    Ezra
